Drinking Water Treatment Objectives Compliance Plan

The Kaleden Irrigation District is mandated by Interior Health Authority to construct a UV Treatment Plan for a secondary source of disinfection. We currently chlorinate at the source however, all surface water systems require dual disinfection. We have been saving for this project for several years. The project cost is now over $5M dollars. The District has been lobbying the Province of BC for years to enable grant funding for Improvement Districts, so far to no avail. In any event, we must move forward with this project. The District is considering the installation of the main trunk this year in 2025, with construction of the UV Treatment Plant in 2026. Although we have saved considerable funds for this project, the District will be required to borrow the remaining funds in long term borrowing. In order to do this, a referendum or vote by the ratepayers for the borrowing will be required to proceed with the project.

Once the borrowing is secured, ratepayers will have the option of paying their share up front, or paying the District back over a period of ten years. Final figures are unknown as yet, however, these two options will be relayed in a notice with the upcoming toll billing, and as well ratepayers will be able to fill out a simple form online and submit it to the District. Stay tuned for full details and options..
